2018 Jeep Cherokee Dashboard Symbol Guide
When you’re driving around Jeannette and Delmont in your Jeep Cherokee and a light pops up on your dashboard, do you know what to do? If you’re like many of our customers, this experience may be one that catches you off-guard.
To help Greensburg area drivers prepare for this kind of situation, the team at Hillview Motors outlined some of the most common dashboard lights you may see in this 2018 Jeep Cherokee dashboard symbol guide.
Red Dashboard Lights
Brake Warning Light: If you see a red light that reads “BRAKE” and stays lit when the parking brake is disengaged, there could be low brake fluid or a problem with the anti-lock brake system reservoir. See a certified Jeep technician as soon as possible for a professional diagnosis.
Oil Pressure Warning Light: A red image of an oil can indicates that there’s low oil pressure. If you see this light, pull over as soon as it’s safe to do so, shut off the engine, and contact your local Jeep dealership. Don’t continue operating the vehicle until the issue is corrected to avoid overheating and damaging engine friction.
Engine Coolant Temperature Warning Light: This is a red light that looks like a thermometer being dipped in liquid. It indicates that your engine coolant temperature is too high. Pull over and stop the vehicle as soon as it’s safe. Shift the transmission into neutral and turn off the A/C until the light turns off. If it does not, contact a Jeep technician.
Oil temperature Warning Light: A thermometer being dipped into an oil can tells you that your oil temperature is high. Stop the vehicle and shut off the engine until the temperature returns to normal levels. Contact a technician if it doesn’t turn off.
Battery Charge Warning Light: The image of a battery indicates that the battery is not charging properly and there may be a charging or electrical system issue. Contact your local Jeep dealership as soon as possible.
Yellow Dashboard Symbols
Engine Check/Malfunction Indicator Warning Light (MIL): This infamous symbol is a yellow light that looks like an engine. It monitors your engine and automatic transmission control. You can see this light for myriad reasons, so drive to your nearest Jeep service center as soon as possible to receive an expert diagnosis.
Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Warning Light: If you see a yellow exclamation mark surrounded by half-circles, your tire pressure may be low, or your tires may be slowly losing air. Fill your tires to the recommended PSI as soon as possible. After filling your tires and driving a mile or two, this light should turn off. If it doesn’t, make a service appointment as soon as possible; You may need a new set of tires.
Service 4WD Warning Light (If Equipped): If your Jeep Cherokee has 4-wheel drive (4WD), this light may come on if the 4WD system is not functioning properly. Head to your nearest Jeep service center as soon as possible to avoid travelling with decreased handling capabilities.
