2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe Powertrain
The Wrangler 4xe is a plug-in hybrid, meshing gas and electric power with a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine, two electric motors, and an EV battery pack recharged by an external power source. One of the electric motors is mounted to the front of the engine, where the alternator would normally be, generating energy to send back to maintain or increase the battery’s state of charge and providing a seamless engine stop-start function. The second electric motor is inside the transmission, replacing the standard torque converter. This provides the Gladiator with instant torque by sending electric power to the wheels for superior electric drivability. This combination of gas and electric power gives the 2023 Wrangler 4xe 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque while managing the gas equivalent of 49 miles per gallon. On a full tank and a full charge, the Wrangler 4xe achieves a 370-mile total driving range and 21 miles of all-electric driving.

This means that as long as the transfer case is in 4-low mode, every four rotations of the transmission output shaft turn the axles one time. This provides the Rubicon trim with superior off-road traction by giving it high torque at low speeds to maintain optimal traction.
