2023 Jeep Wrangler Powertrain Options
The 2023 Jeep Wrangler powertrain is about as personalizable as they come, with five engine options, three available 4×4 systems, and two transmission options. As standard equipment, however, the Wrangler comes with a 3.6-liter V6 engine that sends power to all four wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission and Jeep’s Command-Trac part-time 4×4 system. The V6 engine generates 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Meanwhile, the 2.0L turbocharged inline-4 engine is standard for the Sahara and High Altitude trims. This sends 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque through an 8-speed automatic transmission to the Selec-Trac full-time 4×4 system. The 4xe plug-in hybrid system is optional for the Willys, Sahara, Rubicon, and High Altitude trims. Wrangler 4xe models use the turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine paired with two electric motors and a rechargeable battery pack. This lays down 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque while maintaining 49 MPGe. The 4xe system is also linked to an 8-speed automatic transmission and Selec-Trac 4×4. The 3.0L EcoDiesel V6 returns for 2023 with 260 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque sent through an 8-speed automatic transmission. Lastly, the Wrangler Rubicon 392 comes exclusively with a 6.4L HEMI V8 to deliver an enthralling 470 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. The 392’s 8-speed automatic transmission can be controlled by steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters to enhance its performance. Exclusive to the Rubicon trim is Rock-Trac 4×4, offering a lower range gear ratio in the transfer case, allowing for advanced low-speed off-road crawling.
What Features Come Standard with the 2023 Jeep Wrangler?
One of the features that make the Wrangler so iconic and popular is the access it gives to the outside world with the removable top and doors and fold-down windshield. At most trim levels, two doors are standard equipment, while four doors are available. Meanwhile, the Sahara, High Altitude, and Rubicon 392 come standard with the Unlimited (four-door) body style. In addition to the iconic open-air freedom, the Wrangler’s upright seven-slot grille with round headlights has also made it instantly recognizable. From the main roads to the most rugged trails, the Wrangler’s high and wide stance gives it an assertive road presence. The trim level lineup is once again led off by the Sport trim. Outside the Sport trim, you’ll find black fender flares, 17-inch steel wheels, black side mirrors, black bumpers, high-strength steel skid plates, and Dana 44 solid axles. Inside the Wrangler Sport, you’ll find removable all-weather carpets and one-way drain plugs for easy washout, a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen, push-button ignition, six speakers, cloth upholstery, Apple/Android smartphone integration, and a 4.2-inch digital driver information display between analog gauges.
What Do the Higher Wrangler Trim Levels Offer?
The Sport S trim takes the Wrangler Sport and adds power windows, power door locks, heated/power-adjustable side mirrors, alloy wheels, deep tinted rear glass, and automatic headlights. The Sahara follows up with 18-inch alloy wheels, body-color fender flares, an 8.4-inch touchscreen, navigation, remote keyless entry, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and Alpine premium audio with nine speakers. The Rubicon trim adds unrivaled off-road chops with locking front and rear differentials, 33-inch all-terrain tires, Rock-Trac 4×4, FOX shock absorbers, an electronic disconnecting front sway bar, and rock rails. The High Altitude trim upgrades the Sahara trim with a full body-color exterior, a body-color hard top, LED lighting, dual-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, and more.
