The Jeep Grand Cherokee is truly versatile, and offers a wide range of features and abilities for drivers to choose from. Depending on the Grand Cherokee model you choose, you can enjoy many different features that help you navigate all kinds of terrain. Whether you need extra traction for snowy roads while handling your commute during the winter months, or want something even more robust to help you tackle the off-road trails, the Jeep Grand Cherokee is sure to offer the features you need! Throughout the lineup, 4-wheel drive is offered as an available option across the board. However, depending on the model you choose, you may be treated to one of four different 4X4 systems. These include the Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II, Quadra-Drive II, and Quadra-Trac SRT. Plus, the Grand Cherokee also offers many other great off-road features to help you with your capability. Read on to learn more about the Jeep Grand Cherokee’s new 4X4 systems!
Quadra-Trac I
The first 4X4 system we’d like to discuss is the Quadra-Trac I! This is the system you’re likely to find on lower trim levels such as the Laredo or Limited. This system features a center differential, which diverts 52% of the Jeep Grand Cherokee’s power to the rear axle, while the remaining 48% of the power is sent to the front axle. This 4X4 system also features full-time high-range gearing, so that drivers can enjoy maximum traction at all times. As a fully automatic system, drivers can enjoy the benefits of Quadra-Trac I without having to worry about any settings or adjustments. It also features a 4-Wheel Brake Traction Control System, and a Brake Lock Differential.
Quadra-Trac II
Up next on the list, there’s the Quadra-Trac II! You’ll notice that each of these 4X4 systems gets more and more advanced as you move up the list. While the first system had a single-speed transfer case, the Quadra-Trac II has a two-speed low transfer case, offering both low and high range to deliver the appropriate torque and traction when needed. In 4 Low Mode, you can achieve feats such as towing and rock crawling with ease. This system also has advanced sensors that can detect and correct any signs of tie slippage by rerouting up to 100% of the vehicle’s torque to the axle that can provide the most traction. This 4X4 system also pairs with Selec-Terrain Traction Management, which offers modes such as Sport, Snow, Sand/Mud, and Rock.
Quadra-Drive II
The Quadra-Drive II is the 4X4 system with the most off-road acumen! Jeep Grand Cherokee models equipped with this system will be able to handle the toughest terrain that the trails have to offer. This full-time 4X4 system features a rear electronic limited-slip differential for expert traction, and pairs not only with the Selec-Terrain Traction Management system, but also the Quadra-Lift Air Suspension System that can adjust your ride height for even better athleticism. If you ever need to tow your Grand Cherokee, you can also switch into neutral mode for easy towing. The Quadra-Drive II system includes 4 Low mode for rock crawling, and an active electronic transfer case. It can also deliver torque to any of the four wheels with the most traction when you need it most!
Quadra-Trac SRT
The fourth and final 4X4 system that is offered for the Jeep Grand Cherokee is the Quadra-Trac SRT! This system is a bit different from the other systems that we previously mentioned, in that it’s designed for sport performance rather than off-road prowess. You might find this system on trim levels such as the Trackhawk or SRT, which were offered in recent model years. The Quadra-Trac SRT system features a single-speed transfer case, and pairs with the Selec-Track System which includes Auto, Track, Sport, Snow, Tow and Custom modes. The SRT system can distribute torque with a 35-65 split, and also features a brake lock differential. It can also deliver 100% of the torque to a single rear wheel, helping you charge ahead on the roads!
