Ghost Town Trail

Pennsylvania is home to several abandoned towns with fascinating histories. The Ghost Town Trail is about 46 miles and wanderers through Western Pennsylvania. It’s best to start early in the morning to make the most of the sites. Called the Ghost Town Trail, this scenic drive is a designated National United States Recreation Trail and attracts over 80,000 visitors each year and passes through a number of former coal-mining towns, covered bridges, and state parks with fabulous views in three sections that include Blacklick, Dilltown, and Nanty Glo.

Susquehanna Heartland Wine Trail

There are more than 300 wineries in Pennsylvania and ten different wine road trips. However, the Susquehanna Heartland Wine trail is a favorite among the Hillview staff. It’s situated near State College, PA, just north of Harrisburg, about a two-hour drive from Greensburg. The trail passes by 16 different wineries with great riesling, chardonnay, and pinot noir varietals. In addition, you can visit several wineries that offer tasting rooms and tours in two to three hours.

Pennsylvania’s Grand Canyon

Yes, there is a grand canyon in Pennsylvania, though the official name is Pine Creek Gorge. Pine Creek runs through a deep, tree-covered canyon in Leonard Harrison State Park of Pennsylvania. Choose the most picturesque drive along routes 44 and 414, as these roads run along the Pine Creek Rail Tail’s southern side. You can drive the entire area in three or four hours and picnic along the way. We recommend spending at least one night appreciating this natural wonder.

Allegheny National Forest

Established in 1923, the Allegheny National Forest (ANF) is Pennsylvania’s only National Forest. Situated on the Allegheny Plateau, the forest comprises 514,029 acres in the state’s northwestern corner. This park offers all kinds of adventures with OHV trails, camping sites, and rivers for kayaking or swimming. The ANF is about 2 hours north of Greensburg, Pennsylvania but worth the trip.
