The Wrangler now comes with added driver-assistance and safety technology. The latest model features new adaptive cruise control and forward collision warning. Drivers can choose between two body types: a two-door base and the four-door Unlimited.
The soft top roof is standard, but Jeep offers a hard top as well. The interior lining is made from tough, easy-to-clean materials designed to hold up to the elements. The Wrangler provides a convenient combination of interior features, including the Uconnect infotainment system with touchscreen, eight-speaker sound system, USB and auxiliary ports, and more. Given the Wrangler’s penchant for off-road romps, Jeep has made the Uconnect system water resistant.
When it’s time to work, the Wrangler is absolutely in its element. The 285-horsepower V6 engine comes standard, and the two-door build can tow up to 2,000 pounds. The robust Unlimited can tow 3,500. Born to excel off the beaten path, the base Wrangler also features skid plates and part-time four-wheel drive.
The rearview camera is a standard feature, and other available safety tech includes cross traffic alert, forward collision warning, blind spot monitoring, and more.
The Wrangler is available in four trims:
In addition to a unique interior styling, the Sahara trim integrates extra technology into the newest Wrangler. This trim’s special features include automatic climate control, 115-volt power outlet, Apple CarPlay, upgraded Uconnect system, and more. The Rubicon reinforces the Wrangler’s off-road capabilities with performance suspension and a locking rear differential.
The Wrangler’s origins date back to World War 2, although its modern nameplate did not debut until the 1980s. In 1987, Jeep rolled out the Wrangler to replace the heavier CJ model. The new vehicle kept the CJ’s utilitarian frame, however, as well as the removable doors that had become Jeep’s signature.
In the following years, Chrysler bought Jeep, and the Wrangler underwent adaptations in function and style. In 1997, the Wrangler TJ debuted with a taller profile and stiffer frame. The Rubicon arrived six years later to thrill diehard Wrangler fans. It was quickly recognized as an athletic off-road machine that could negate rugged terrain and tough obstacles with ease.
The Wrangler JK released in 2007 with a fresh new styling and considerable changes to its interior equipment. This model was a decisive leap in Jeep’s new direction, designed to increase the Wrangler’s value by merging raw power with everyday convenience.
