What Do These Jeep® Dashboard Symbols Mean?
For many drivers, seeing a symbol lit up on your dashboard can be alarming. At Hillview Motors in Greensburg, PA, our Jeep® service and parts center team is committed to helping you diagnose any issues and getting you back on the road quickly. Here’s a brief overview of what the most common Jeep dashboard symbols mean.
Common Dashboard Symbols
The most common dashboard symbols are pretty straightforward. When your battery is having a charge issue, the light that looks like a battery, with a plus and minus symbol, will light up. Brake issues will trigger the “brake” symbol. And if your fuel levels are getting too low, the low fuel indicator is a symbol that looks like a gas pump.
Others include:
- Tire pressure monitor, which has an exclamation point inside a U-like symbol
- Check engine light, which looks like a car engine
- Door ajar, which shows the car from above and lights up the door that’s open
- Oil level warning, which looks like a dripping oil can
- High beam headlight indicator, which looks like a beaming light
- Engine temperature light, which looks like a thermometer
- Seat belt light, which shows a human figure with a seatbelt on
These are common symbols you’ll see lit up on your dashboard. Understanding what they mean will help you avoid panic and assess the severity of the issue.

I have a 2016 Jeep Cheríkee and the A with a círcle around it with an !
comes ón aftér a while of dríving. What dóes this méan?
Hello Carol,
That symbol is for the auto start/stop feature. The light comes on when the engine shuts off at a stop light or stop sign. All of the other electronics and hvac stay running. You can turn off the feature by hitting the button on the center dash with that symbol on it.
How do I clear my dashboard tire pressure light? I have aired up my tires and the symbol will not go away.
Hello Breanna,
If your tire pressure is correct, then you might have a bad tire sensor. Please call our service department to schedule an appointment.
Thanks!
I have a 2020 jeep renegade and a light keeps popping on but not longer enough to really get a look at. It right next to the mileage and looks like a key maybe
Thank you for your question! The light that looks like a key refers to the power outlets. It could be a bad fuse perhaps. But to get a diagnosis the best thing to do would be to bring it in so we can take a look. Thanks!
Symbol of a car with pad lock?
From what I can tell, it looks like that means the electronic stability control has been activated. Meaning it has detected wheel slip.
